چکیده

Today, the accumulated volume of data traffic is on the verge of surpassing the accumulated volume of voice traffic in all public networks. Given the growth in the areas of wireless voice and data, we see that the combination of mobile and Internet communication constitutes the driving force behind third-generation wireless systems, which promise to support at least 144 kbit/s (384 kbit/s) in all radio environments, and up to 2 Mbit/s in low-mobility and indoor environments. The standardization of third-generation wireless systems is rapidly progressing in all major regions of the world. These systems— which go under the names of IMT-2000 (ITU), UMTS, and EDGE (ETSI/3GPP)— will extend the services provided by current second-generation systems (GSM, PDC, IS136, and IS-95) with high data-rate capabilities. The main application for these services will be wireless packet transfer; for instance, for wireless access to the Internet. However, support will also be provided for high data-rate circuit-switched services, such as real-time video.

A Trace-based Feasibility Study of Infrastructure-less VoIP

Voice over IP (VoIP) is one of the most popular Internet applications. Many VoIP protocols (e.g. SIP) are based on a central-server scheme in which a caller needs to query the central server first for the callee’s information (e.g. IP address) before it can connect to them. However, such a centralized architecture has some drawbacks, such as an unbalanced load and a single point of the failure....

An Integrated Call Agent of the Coveraged VoIP Network

The traditional circuit-switched telecommunication network and the packet-switched data network are converging to a single packet-switched network. One important application of the converged network is telephony communications, also referred to as VoIP (Voice over IP). Call signaling protocols, such as H.323, SIP and MGCP, have been developed to support VoIP communications. To enable devices us...

Semi-Markov modeling of dependability of VoIP network in the presence of resource degradation and security attacks

Nowadays VoIP has become an evolutionary technology in telecommunications. Hence it is very important to study and enhance its dependability attributes. In this paper, an analytical dependability model for VoIP is proposed. The study is focused on analyzing the combined effects of resource degradation and security breaches on the Quality of Service (QoS) of VoIP, to enhance its overall dependab...

Design of QoS and Admission Control for VoIP Services Over IEEE 802.11e WLANs

Supporting telephone services using wireless LAN as the access network is an emerging service. The SIP and IEEE 802.11e are perhaps the two most promising protocols to support such services. In this paper, we show how to integrate SIP and 802.11e to conduct call admission control and resource reservation to support VoIP’s QoS in IEEE 802.11e WLANs. Besides, we also suggest some adjustments and ...
